As of November 2026

A month of Frase costs $39 on Starter, $103 on Professional or $239 on Scale with yearly billing, and $49, $129 or $299 when you pay month to month. Plainly put, the sticker price is only part of the bill: Professional and Scale can charge for articles, audit pages and AI prompts above the plan limit, but only if you switch pay-as-you-go on, and Starter never bills overage at all.

This page works out what a month on each plan really costs, including overage, extra seats and hosting. Every number comes from the Frase pricing page, read on 2 November 2026, and every sum is shown so you can redo it with your own volume. For what the tool does and whether the output is any good, see our Frase review.

How much does Frase cost per month?

Frase has three self-serve plans and one custom plan, and there's no hidden fourth tier. Yearly billing saves about 20 percent against paying month to month, which on the three paid plans is $120, $312 and $720 a year. All prices are in US dollars and were not converted.

What does each Frase plan include?

The three plans differ in monthly volume, in how many people and sites they cover and in how much of your published content Frase watches. Article and audit page counts reset every billing cycle.

Three things sit outside that table. A content calendar, internal linking suggestions and AI crawler monitoring start on Professional. Exportable client-ready reports start on Scale. White-label reports, a branded client portal, SSO and SAML are Enterprise only.

The AI engines that AI Visibility tracks also grow with the plan. Starter covers ChatGPT and Google AI, Professional adds Perplexity, and Scale adds Claude and Gemini. Enterprise adds Grok, Copilot and DeepSeek. If you need to watch Claude or Gemini answers, that single row decides your plan, and there's no workaround on a lower tier. Our guide to the best AI visibility tools shows what else covers those engines.

What do Frase overages cost?

Overage on Frase is optional and off by default: Professional charges $5 per extra article, $0.50 per extra audit page and $0.25 per extra AI prompt, Scale charges $4, $0.40 and $0.20, and Starter has no overage because it stops at its limit. Charges only apply once you've turned pay-as-you-go on, and they're billed at the end of your cycle.

PlanExtra articleExtra audit pageExtra AI promptWhat happens at the cap
Startern/an/an/aHolds at the limit until reset or upgrade
Professional$5.00$0.50$0.25Stops, or bills overage if you enabled it
Scale$4.00$0.40$0.20Stops, or bills overage if you enabled it

Frase's FAQ words the third column as "AI prompt" and doesn't say whether it means AI Visibility prompts or AI generations. The plan grid lists both, so ask Frase support which one is billed before you rely on that rate.

Here's what five common months cost, using yearly prices.

MonthSumTotal
Professional, 48 articles (8 over)$103 + 8 x $5$143
Professional, 60 articles (20 over)$103 + 20 x $5$203
Professional, 80 articles (40 over)$103 + 40 x $5$303
Professional, 400 audit pages (150 over)$103 + 150 x $0.50$178
Scale, 110 articles (10 over)$239 + 10 x $4$279

The second row is the one that really matters. Twenty extra articles on Professional cost $203, which is still $36 below the $239 Scale plan, so a few busy months simply don't justify an upgrade. The next section shows where that changes.

What does one Frase article really cost?

At full use, one article costs $3.90 on Starter, $2.58 on Professional and $2.39 on Scale with yearly billing. The figure is the plan price divided by the monthly article limit, so it's a floor: you actually pay the same whether you publish 3 articles or 10.

Bar chart of Frase monthly cost at 60 and 80 articles: Professional with overage 203 and 303 dollars, Scale 239.
Professional with overage is cheaper than Scale at 60 articles and dearer at 80.
PlanCost per article, yearlyCost per article, monthlyCost of one overage article
Starter$3.90$4.90n/a
Professional$2.58$3.23$5.00
Scale$2.39$2.99$4.00

An overage article on Professional costs $5, which isn't cheap: nearly double its included price of $2.58 and more than a Starter article at $3.90. That's why the break-even matters. Scale costs $136 more per month than Professional on yearly billing. At $5 per extra article, $136 buys about 27 overage articles, so above roughly 67 articles a month (40 included plus 27) Scale is the cheaper plan. At 80 articles Professional plus overage costs $303 against a flat $239 on Scale. On monthly billing the gap is $170, which moves the break-even to 74 articles.

Starter needs a different check, since it never bills overage and you can't buy your way past the cap. Moving from Starter to Professional costs $64 more per month on yearly billing for 30 extra articles, about $2.13 each, and adds two seats and four sites. If you regularly hit 10 articles by the third week, Starter's hard stop is the real cost.

Which extras raise the Frase bill?

Extra seats and FraseCMS hosting are the two add-ons that change the monthly total. Everything else on the pricing page is a plan limit.

ExtraPriceNote
Additional seat$29 per month eachStated on the Professional and Scale cards and in the FAQ

FraseCMS Pro$99 per month, or $990 per year1,000,000 page views, 500 GB, dedicated support
EnterpriseCustomWhite-label reports, SSO and SAML, SLA, two years of history

Seats are the one teams miscount most, and it's easy to see why. A six-person team on Scale pays $239 plus one extra seat, $29, which makes $268 a month, if the $29 applies, which isn't certain. The comparison grid on the same page shows "Included" next to extra seats in one column, which contradicts the cards, so you'll want to get the seat price confirmed in writing before you budget for it.

FraseCMS only matters if you host on Frase instead of publishing to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix, and most teams won't. Past its page-view cap the free tier pauses for the month, while Basic and Pro keep serving at $1.00 and $0.50 per extra 1,000 page views. Frase says it sets a spend cap at your base price by default, so hosting overage can't grow without notice, and that's a fair design.

Does Frase have a free trial?

Yes: Frase offers a 7-day free trial with no credit card, and it runs Professional's feature set at reduced caps of 5 articles, 50 audit pages, 25 AI prompts and up to 3 seats. Frase says you can let the agent publish on its own during the trial.

The trial also includes the content calendar and internal linking, plus AI Visibility on ChatGPT and Google AI. Because it mirrors Professional, it can't tell you whether Starter's smaller feature set is enough, and that's the catch. If you're leaning towards Starter, treat the first month as the real test, since upgrades are prorated on the spot while a downgrade only takes effect at the next billing cycle. The pricing page we read shows no refund policy, so ask before you pay for a year.

Why do other sites list Frase at $15, $45 and $115?

Those figures belong to Solo, Basic and Team plans that no longer appear on Frase's pricing page. Today's plans are Starter, Professional and Scale. One review that was updated on 1 November 2026 clearly says that its earlier versions quoted roughly $15, $45 and $115 per month and a 5-day trial, and that neither is on Frase's page today. A pricing guide dated 25 March 2026 still shows the old plans, including an unlimited-article Team plan that has no counterpart now.

You can spot a stale pricing article in ten seconds, and you don't need a tool for it. Check whether it uses the current plan names, whether it mentions the 7-day trial and whether it states a "last checked" date next to the numbers. If it fails any of the three, don't trust its prices.

Which Frase plan fits your volume?

Choosing a Frase plan starts with your monthly volume: count your articles per month first, then your seats, then the AI engines you'll need to watch. That order mostly decides the plan.

Your situationPlanWhyWatch for
One site, up to 10 articles a month, one personStarter at $39Cheapest entry, no overage riskHard stop at 10 articles and 50 audit pages
In-house team, 11 to about 67 articles a monthProfessional at $10340 articles included, overage cheaper than Scale up to the break-evenOverage is $5 per article, and a fourth seat costs $29

Four habits keep the bill close to the sticker price, and they're all cheap to follow.

  1. Leave pay-as-you-go off until a month actually runs long, since it's what protects you, then switch it on for that cycle only.
  2. Check your article count a week before the cycle ends so an overage is a decision, not a surprise.
  3. Compare the overage total with the next plan up, using the break-even above.
  4. Count every person who needs a login before you pick a plan, because seats are the cost most teams forget and they're easy to add later.

How does Frase pricing compare with Surfer and Clearscope?

Frase starts at $39 per month on yearly billing, Surfer at $49 and Clearscope at $129, but the three count different things, so the entry prices aren't directly comparable.

Surfer figures come from our own Surfer SEO pricing guide and Clearscope's from its pricing page, both read on 2 November 2026. Clearscope shows one flat monthly price, no yearly discount and a 14-day trial. Frase's entry plan's the cheapest of the three per month, though Clearscope gives unlimited users on every plan while Frase caps seats. For the wider field, our guide to content optimization tools covers more options, and the Clearscope alternatives list is useful if $129 is too much.

You can create 5 articles, audit 50 pages, run 25 AI prompts and invite up to 3 seats during the 7-day trial. The caps are lower than any paid plan.
